Galway Oyster Festival
Galway is the home of the wild native Oyster. Every year on the last weekend of September, the city celebrates the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival; the world’s longest running Oyster Festival.
It has been described by the Sunday Times as ‘one of the 12 greatest shows on earth’ and was listed in the AA Travel guide one of Europe’s Seven Bes Festivals.

From the 25th to 27th September, the Galway oyster festival programme of events will include; seafood trails, world oyster opening (shucking) championships and a Masquerade Mardi Gras style gala event is where fine fare and fabulous finery come together as a carnival of masked revellers. The festivals ends on a family fun day, that include family activities, live music and lots more.

Established in 1954 by Brian Collins, the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival has welcomed over half a million visitors, consumed more than 3 million oysters – washed down with champagne and stout whilst listening to some of the best musicians in Ireland.
