DruidShakespeare: RichardIII

Here in Galway we are privileged to have Druid Theatre on our doorstep. This September, we welcome the production of Richard III to much anticipation and excitement.

Druid continue their exploration of Shakespeare's kings with a new production, DruidShakespeare: Richard III. The production opens at Town Hall Theatre September 22nd.  

When peace descends, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is not ahappy man. Crippled from birth and intensely ambitious, he sets about bendingthe world to his own desires. No bond is too sacred, no blood too thick – nothingwill stand between Richard and the crown. Check out The Yard for pre-theatre dining. 

Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival 27th – 30th September

Taking place annually on the last weekend of September, the Galway International Oyster& Seafood Festival is one of the most internationally recognised Irish festivals and the world’s longest running Oyster Festival. Throughout the weekend enjoy seafood trails, seafood trails, oyster opening (shucking)championships including the Oyster ‘Olympics’ or World Oyster Opening Championship, foodie talks & tasting events in some of Galway’s best restaurants, The Festival Marquee, a Mardi Gras style Gala Event along with family activities, live music, cooking demonstrations and more.

Food On The Edge22nd & 23rd October

Placing Galway, and Ireland, firmly on the food map, Food On The Edge  is the brainchild of JP McMahon and is run by a powerhouse of women including Drigin Gaffey, Edel McMahon,Olivia Collins and Ruth Hegarty. Now in its fourth year, FOTE is a coming-together of top international chefs for a two-day Food Symposium in Galway city on the Wild Atlantic Way. A not-for-profit conference, FOTE seeks to make good food accessible for everyone.

With in-and-around 50 chefs from all over the world taking part in the two day symposium, each speaker takes their unique perspective on the cultural, social, environmental and educational aspects of food for 15 minutes. Vodafone ComedyCarnival 23rd – 29th October

Macnas – Sunday 28thOctober

In recent years we have had Port na bPúcaí, Savage Grace,The Shadow Lighter, and Symphony of the Restless. Macnas are master storytellers who inspire and engage audiences by creating big, bold, visual shows and performances through world-class theatrical spectacle. This year it will be no different. Macnas will take to the streets of Galway in a performance largely supported by The Latin Quarter. 70,000 people graced the streets of the city centre last year to witness the show and this year we’re looking at it being bigger and better! Galway Races 27th– 29th October

Yes, that’s right – there’s a new racing festival in town!

Galway Racecourse have launched a new three-day October Festival (Saturday 27th – Bank Holiday Monday 29th October). As part of this new October Festival, on Sunday 28th, the Galway Races will host a dedicated fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research (BCR). By partnering with BCR the Galway Races will be supporting the research team at NUIG to improve breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. There are lots of plans already in place for what will be a superb day where we can all help support and raise money for such a worthy organisation.

Christmas inGalway – 16th November

Yes, you read that right… November! We are BIG fans of Christmas here in The House though so we don’t mind! This year on Friday, 16th November our city will be transformed into a winter wonderland. The businesses around the city are busy working behind the scenes to create a magical experience in the city centre.
