Eyre Square in Galway City Centre, also known as John FKennedy Memorial Park, is our main public park in the city. Eyre Square issurrounded on most sides with traffic and is located beside Galway trainstation. It is home to the ever-popular Galway Christmas Markets in Novemberand December each year.

History tells us the origin of the square comes from medievalopen space in front of a town gate. Markets would have taken place and the spacewas officially presented to the city in 1710 by Mayor Edward Eyre.

Following the visit of John F Kennedy to Galway in 1963 thesquare was officially renamed John F Kennedy Memorial Park.

The flags of all the Tribes of Galway are also present atthe north of the square.

One of Eyre Square’s most prominent residents, a replica ofthe original statue of Pádraic O’Conaire was recently unveiled back on the square.
